Walking Each Other Home
The quote “we are all just walking each other home” once said by spiritual guru Ram Dass is flooding social media as inspiration for 2020. This quote is such a profound quote and one that can produce such magnetic energy on earth. It takes grit, compassion, and, most importantly, unconditional love. But what does it mean to walk each other home?
It means that every day we should be helping others on this earth to reach their eternal heavenly home — it’s why we were created. But how can we do that? As Jesus proclaimed the two most important commandments are -
You must love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your soul, all your mind, and all your strength.” Then he added, “The second is equally important: Love your neighbor as yourself. No other commandment is greater than these” (Mark 12:30–31).
If we truly love the Lord with everything we have and treat each other like we would like to be treated, then the walk will come naturally. Helping the hungry, feeding the thirsty, caring for the sick, visiting the elderly, being kind to our enemies, showing compassion in times of need — these are just a few of the ‘small acts of kindness’ that may come to pass along our journey home.
