Quiet Your Mind
When you focus on quieting your mind, you will bring balance to your life. Mindfulness meditation or prayer will work wonders for your everyday life. But what is it? Mindfulness meditation is when you live in the present. It is the act of quieting your thoughts. Do not focus on the past, nor the future — just the now. Meditation may seem like quackery or craziness to many of you, but it is beneficial for inner peace. As a working mom of three kids, wife, volunteer, cook, maid, taxi driver, teacher, household accountant, coach, etc; my life needs some quiet moments, to help avoid undue stress and anxiety.
Mindfulness meditation is not easy, and it will take some practice. Begin by finding a quiet place where you will not be interrupted. Sit or lay down, but find comfort in whichever position you choose. Close your eyes and relax. I found listening to guided meditations to be helpful in the beginning, but now I listen to soft spa music or nothing at all. When you begin, your mind will flutter with thoughts. Thoughts of today’s activities, yesterday’s struggles, and fear are just a few thoughts that may enter your mind — it’s natural. But, as with all things, it will take practice. When those thoughts come to mind, think of them as balloons and let them slowly float away.
